The Challenger Leagues of the
Illinois and Iowa Quad Cities
will be playing in the second GREAT RIVER CHALLENGE. The game
will have the two leagues playing together for the at the scenic
Modern Woodmen Park thanks to the generosity of the River Bandits
Organization and the hard work of many people from both leagues.
The Challenger Little League enable mentally and
physically challenged children a chance to play organized baseball. The
Challenger Leagues have the participants divided into three different levels
to allow for safe and fun baseball game. The Challenger Leagues rely on
volunteers to coach and manage the teams and most of them are parents of
these special needs children. The Challenger Leagues also have volunteers
who act as “buddies” and help the Challenger players on the field and at
bat.
The GREAT RIVER CHALLENGE
will consist of 5 games (two minor league games, one intermediate league
game, and two major league game) beginning at 2:00 PM and each game will
last about one hour. There will be concessions for sale to the spectators
of these GREAT athletes.
